UTRC China was established in May 1997 and was the first wholly foreign-owned R&D enterprise in China focused solely on research. It has evolved to a world-class research center advancing technologies that serve integrated energy, environment, and control systems in support of the businesses of United Technologies.

UTRC China has grown to 30 full-time employees and will rapidly build core capabilities in physics-based modeling with an expected in house staff of 50 full-time employees by 2008.
