LIFT consortium showcases UTRC's innovative problem-solving capabilities
EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut – The Research Center and its advanced lightweighting solutions are the focus of the lead article in the Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow's (LIFT) March newsletter.
Two UTRC engineers are featured: Ken Smith, staff engineer, materials chemistry, Physical Sciences Department; and Bill Tredway, project leader, advanced manufacturing technologies, and principal engineer, Manufacturing & Service Technologies Program Office.
The story spotlights UTRC's role as the innovation engine of UTC and its novel use of lightweight materials, such as aluminum and titanium, to improve process efficiency and reduce costs across the corporation, including its aerospace businesses.
LIFT is a public-private partnership operated by the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute (ALMMII). Its mission is to "develop and deploy advanced lightweight materials manufacturing technologies, and implement education and training programs to prepare the U.S. workforce for the accelerated development and adoption of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies." Consortium membership comprises a broad section of research and academic intuitions, non-profit organizations, professional societies and American-based manufacturers.
