UTRC flow battery technology spotlighted in Hartford Courant

EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut – The Research Center's breakthrough flow battery technology -- and the innovative business model used to license it -- are spotlighted in a new article in the Hartford Courant.

The May 23 article, "United Technologies Battery Could Upend The Power Business," features Mike Perry, electrochemical engineer at UTRC.

While the idea behind flow batteries is not new, Perry explains, advances developed by UTRC radically improve performance while reducing cost, making UTRC's vanadium redox flow battery technology a safe and marketable energy storage system.

UTC has licensed the technology to Vionx Energy, which plans to bring the technology to the market, with commercial sales expected later this year or in 2017.

The article features a video interview with Perry, as well as a video overview of the technology.
