NASA spotlights UTRC efforts to improve jet engine performance

EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently published a story on its website highlighting the work of UTRC Staff Research Scientist, Wookyung Kim, and his team of combustion experts, to reduce combustor dynamics in jet engines.

The article, titled "NASA Funds Five Teams to Study Inventive Ideas for Aviation," explains how NASA-funded research is enabling Kim's team to investigate the viability of injecting a stream of plasma (ionized gas) into an engine's combustor to ensure stable combustion while reducing emissions and noise levels, fuel consumption and overall engine weight.

The story was picked up last week by Aviation Week & Space Technology and re-purposed into an article for that publication's "The Week In Technology" feature.
