SHANGHAI, China, May 6, 2014 - United Technologies Research Center (China) Ltd. (UTRC China) recently received two awards from Tsinghua University: the 2013 Award for Excellence in University-Industry Cooperation and the 2013 Award for UICC Outstanding Advisor.
UTRC China serves as the in-country operation of United Technologies Research Center (UTRC), the research and innovation arm of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
These honors, bestowed by the Tsinghua University-Industry Cooperation Committee (UICC), recognize UTRC China's collaborative research and planning efforts with the University, and specifically commemorate UTRC’s contribution to Tsinghua’s work and educational programs in integrated building technologies, building construction safety, and supply chain optimization.
They were presented by Tsinghua University vice president, Professor Xue Qikun, at the UICC Reception for the Overseas Partner Enterprises hosted earlier in the year at Wenjin Hotel, Beijing. Dr. Murilo Bonilha, general manager, UTRC China, who received the 2013 Award for UICC Outstanding Advisor, accepted the awards on behalf of the company.
The formal association between UTRC and Tsinghua University began in September 2007, when the two organizations first signed a five-year agreement establishing a joint research program to enable the world's next generation of buildings. Since then, Bonilha indicated, the relationship between the University and UTRC has expanded and evolved.
"These awards pay tribute to the close working relationship between UTRC and Tsinghua University, which dates back to 1995," Bonilha explained. "That relationship was further enhanced in 2007 with the establishment of the Tsinghua University-United Technologies Corporation Research Institute for Integrated Building Energy, Safety and Control Systems. The Institute now is in its seventh year and some of its current research topics are attracting UTC business unit interest."
Bonilha started overseeing the Tsinghua-UTC Institute in 2013 and since then has been responsible for continuing research in decentralized building controls and satisfaction-based control. He also expanded the scope of the Institute by initiating research projects in the areas of supply chain optimization and building construction safety with its Industrial Engineering Department.
